Inspired by historical fact and larger-than-life legend, the intelligently scripted story takes place in Scotland in 1713, when Highland farmer and clan leader Rob Roy MacGregor (Liam Neeson) is forced to borrow money from the duplicitous aristocrat Marquis of Montrose (John Hurt) to help his clan survive a harsh winter. When Montrose's vile henchman (Tim Roth) schemes to dishonor MacGregor and his wife (Jessica Lange) and take the money for himself, the rugged Highlander must take courageous action to preserve his integrity. A wealth of breathtaking scenery, high-intensity action, and a lush soundtrack.

The Rob Roy Way (Rucksack Readers)
by Jacquetta Megarry
Spiral-bound - 70 pages
Published 2002
ISBN: 189848113X
Buy it for $11.17 Buy it for £8.79

Book Description
The Rob Roy Way is a long-distance walk from Drymen to Pitlochry. It runs for 79 miles (126 km) along some of Scotland's finest lochs and glens, using historic footpaths, a cycle route, forest tracks and some minor roads. Much of the Way is linked with Scotland's most famous outlaw, Rob Roy MacGregor (1671-1734). The Way has no official status: walking enthusiasts have negotiated the route with private landowners, Forest Enterprise, Stirling and Perth Councils and other official bodies. The walk offers magnificent views, but is generally less strenuous than the West Highland Way. It is not waymarked as such, but the book gives detailed directions. The guide offers background on Rob Roy MacGregor, and the history, heritage and wildlife of the area, as well as a summary of each section showing distance, terrain and food/drink stops. It features a fold-out map showing the whole route in five panels (scale 1:110,000) and information on visitor attractions and hills to climb (Munros, Corbetts and Grahams).

Rob Roy MacGregor: His Life and Times
by W.H. Murray
Paperback - 288 pages
Published 1995
ISBN: 0862415381
Buy it for $9.56 Buy it for £5.59

Book Description
Rob Roy Macgregor, Scotland's most romantic, elusive hero, was an outlaw and a life-long enemy of Montrose. So well-known was he that no one thought to write down a physical description of him, or any direct record of his childhood and youth. Thus tracking down Rob Roy today is to embark upon a search through archives, estate records and folk myths, enriched and confused by the romantic yarns that have grown up around him. This book brings together new interpretations of Rob Roy's life and times to produce an understanding of the character, actions and motives of a man who became a myth and symbol of Scotland. The author shows that Rob Roy's renown stems from his remarkable force of character, rather than his politics or his place in the writings of Sir Walter Scott. His political mission outwardly failed, but his extraordinary resolution in adversity has earned him his place in history and legend.
