How to Measure for a Kilt

Be sure to provide the correct measurements to your kiltmaker!

Using the illustration as a guide, follow the steps below to take your measurements.

A.  Taken around the waist at the level of the high waist between the hip bone and the lowest rib - the buckle will allow for about 2 inches expansion.

B.  Taken around the seat at the widest part of the seat.

C.  Taken from the level of measurement A to the middle of the knee cap usually while kneeling.

Rise: the measurement between A and B.

Real Men Wear Kilts!

Wear your tartan proudly!

Read How to Wrap the Great Kilt - an article written shortly after the '45 uprising and published about 50 years later. It describes how an 18th century Highland gentleman donned his plaid, with the help of his ghillie. The writer also provides details on the complete equipment of a Highland Chief at the time of the '45.
